Cultural Revolution Statuettes

Most of terracotta statuettes were manufactured during the Cultural Revolution era, and sometimes more recently, to supply collectors. As you may notice, most of them look like each other, and their creators were probably not very imaginative. One of the favourite topic was the 3 great leaders of this time: Mao Zedong, his wife Jiang Qing, and its potential successor Lin Biao. Workers, soldiers, peasants and red guards were very common as well. The most impressive statuettes were probably the ones representing punishment and humiliation of counter-revolutionnaries.
