LANZHOU
Lanzhou, a 3 million industrial city on the Yellow River,
is now the capital city of the Chinese province of Gansu. It is located on
the Silk Road from Xi'an to Central Asia. It is not such an interesting place
and this city is famous for its pollution statistics rather than for its
charms. An important muslim minority lives there, and this "hui" community
represents the majority population in some surrounding towns and villages.
