Ladakh, also called Little Tibet, is in the eastern
side of Indian Kashmir. It is located around Indus and Zanskar valleys at
a very strategic position, beetween Himalaya and Karakorum, Kashmir and Tibet.
With a very small population, it looks like its large neighbour, Tibet. Its
history, culture, language, religion and way of life are very similar. Life
in this territory is very hard, and very strongly influenced by tibetan buddhism.
Many ladakhi families still have at least one monk. Since about 20 or 30
years, many muslim kashmiris immigrated in Ladakh, especially because of
the growing turism business.
