THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER, NEAR PANMUNJOM

Since 1953, the most hermetic border in the world separates North from South Korea. On each side, barbed wires and miradors surround a two kilometer wide demilitarized area, in which it is forbidden to enter. Panmunjom is the only contact point between the two countries.

Note: In this militarized area, it is unfortunately forbidden to take pictures of the most interesting places.

Many monuments to freedom and friendship have been built in this area.

This small building shows the meeting between the Presidents of the two Koreas in 2000.

The friendship bridge, between the two Koreas.

North Koreans have digged some tunels to invade the South. This is the entrance of one of them (with turism facilities of course).

Dorasan railway station will be the last stop for trains going from Seoul to Pyongyang.

If the project is completed, Seoul will be one of the destinations of the Transsiberian leaving Moscow.

This station will be extremely secured of course.

Everything is ready to welcome the travellers.

An observation building, from which the view of North Korea is wonderful.

The area is crowded with american and south korean soldiers, like this one.

Many miradors also.
